This piece depicts Esther's encounter with Xerxes. For lyrics, I adapted the Douay Old Testament Apocrypha text in Esther 15:12-14, 16-17, and the New American Bible text in Esther 5:3-4.
Esther asks for permission to appear before King Xerxes. Xerxes extends his golden scepter to Esther, and tries to assure her she is safe, and offers Esther up to half his kingdom. Esther invites Xerxes and Haman to a special feast. Xerxes accepts the invitation.
Esther: "Oh King if I'm your favored one, may I come to you?"
Xerxes: "Fear not, my Queen, you shall not die, this golden scepter come and touch!"
Esther: "My Lord your face is full of grace. My heart is filled with trembling and fear of your majesty!"
Xerxes: "Even up to half my kingdom I will give to you, my Queen! What is your request?"
Esther: "A special feast..."
Xerxes: "Your wish, a feast?"
Esther: "...have I prepared for you, my King..."
Xerxes: "A special feast!"
Esther: "...and Haman today..."
Xerxes: "Your wish, a feast for me and Haman!"
Esther: "...if it pleases the King!"
Xerxes: "It does please indeed!"
Esther: "A special feast prepared for my King..."
Xerxes: "Special feast prepared?"
Esther: "...and Haman, come today!"
Xerxes: "The King and Haman will attend!"
